Bayon

"Bayon", Angkor Thom, Siem Reap (Cambodia) [2018]

Background: While the world-famous "Angkor Wat" temple is a special precinct outside of the giant quadratic walls of the ancient main city of "Angkor Thom"; "Bayon" is the main temple within the city boundaries. Not as conserved as "Angkor Wat" it is still an impressive sight. The pillars are decorated with man-high stony faces. One can only imagine the impression the temple made on simple rural people coming to the city for the first time. Usually tours begin at "Angkor Wat" early in the morning and then proceed to "Angkor Thom" as a second stop. Our guide jumped "Angkor Wat" and started with "Bayon" which turned out to be a good decision. We booked the big temple tour by Tuk Tuk (rather a Remorque) for 22.00 USD from our hotel (Lynnaya Urban River Resort & Spa). . On top of this comes the admission fee of 37.00 USD (for a day pass). Going by Tuk Tuk is definitely the most relaxing way to spend the day. The second day (also the day I took this picture) I hired one of the Green e-bikes. Although I love the idea of electric bikes for "Angkor Wat" I can't recommend using Green e-bike. The bikes are slow and unreliable.
