Rạch Vẹm

Fisherman at Rạch Vẹm, Phu Quoc (Vietnam) [2018]

Background: In the North of the island at the end of a dirt track you find the small fisher village of Rạch Vẹm. The village is famous for their floating restaurants and the countless starfishes in the shallow water. The village is in a weird state of metamorphosis. Everywhere you see people living in very basic huts, hanging in their hammock and playing with their smartphone. We hired a scooter at the resort next to our hotel (Nam Nghi Resort). It takes about 1hr to get to Rạch Vẹm from there. I wonder how long it will take for the giant real estate developers to swallow also this little paradise. I wish the responsible people would have had a greener and smarter roadmap for developing the island...
